I have been using Kaltura for years at my university. Its software owned by our IT dept but my group uses it regularly to record live teaching sessions, student welcome announcements in the morning, and as an internal YouTube for students to record and post videos.
Pros: The video platform is very convenient to use and is fully integrated with my my university’s learning management system (we use Blackboard), which makes it very easy to fire it up and start recording and posting videos to courses and trainings in Blackboard. Favorite and most used features are the screen share capture, audio and webcam recording. I also love that its super easy to organize, tag and management a lot of user generated video in a single repository.
Cons: Throughout the years I have experienced a number of technical issues and bugs with the software and a lot of times with a combination of hardware and software. I have found that reporting bugs and issues is easy, but because my IT department owns the software, they act as the middlemen and support seems lackluster. Also, for people new to Kaltura I can see how it can be confusing to setup and get acquainted with the software.
